Neutron scattering, specific-heat, and magnetization measurements on both powders and single crystals reveal that Dy_{2}Ir_{2}O_{7} realizes the fragmented monopole crystal state in which antiferromagnetic order and a Coulomb phase spin liquid coinha

The Coulomb phase, with its dipolar correlations and pinch-point–scattering patterns, is central to discussions of geometrically frustrated systems, from water ice to binary and mixed-valence alloys, as well as numerous examples of frustrated magne

At low temperatures, a spin ice enters a Coulomb phase—a state with algebraic correlations and topologically constrained spin configurations. We show how analytical and numerical approaches for model spin-ice systems reveal a crossover between two

Metallic discs engineered on the 100 nm scale have an internal magnetic texture which varies from a fully magnetized state to a vortex state with zero moment. The interplay between this internal structure and the inter-disc interactions is studied in

The Coulomb gas description of spin ice has revolutionized our understanding of these systems. Built on the remarkable self screening of the dipolar spin ice model, the emergence of magnetic monopole quasi-particles has allowed a depth of analytic an

Spin liquids are exotic phases of matter that often support emergent gauge fields and quasi-particle excitations. While spin liquids are commonly known for remaining disordered, their definition has been extended to include phases with broken symmetr

We present the full phase diagram of the dumbbell model of spin ice as a function of temperature, chemical potential and staggered chemical potential which breaks the translational lattice symmetry in favour of charge crystal ordering. We observe a d

The low-temperature picture of dipolar spin ice in terms of the Coulomb fluid of its fractionalised magnetic monopole excitations has allowed analytic and conceptual progress far beyond its original microscopic spin description. Here we develop its t

The classical Heisenberg anti-ferromagnet on the pyrochlore lattice is macroscopically and continuously degenerate and the system remains disordered at all temperatures, even in the presence of weak dilution with nonmagnetic ions. We show that, in co
