We have designed a large helium dewar as part of an experiment to investigate gravitational radiation. Two such dewars have been constructed. Our use requires a nonmagnetic dewar to cool an aluminium antenna of approximately 5000 kg to below helium t

Using an expansion in1/T andH2 for the free energy, we phenomenologically obtain a good fit to the existing high-temperature thermodynamic data for bcc 3 He at both high and low magnetic field. In addition, we show that our coefficients can be obtain

We discuss the thermally generated magnetic flux in an anisotropic, homogeneous bulk superconductor. A previous calculation by Ginzburg is generalized to allow for large variations in the superelectron density n/sub s/ between the hot and cold ends o

A simple apparatus used in an introductory physics course to quantitatively measure Coriolis and centripetal accelerations is discussed. Several strobe photographs of experimental situations are presented along with a quantitative analysis of each pi

Irreversible thermodynamics shows that there is an electrostatic voltage difference in a superconductor if a temperature difference is established across the ends. This voltage difference is due to a difference in the chemical potential μ of the con

The isotopic phase separation temperature of solid mixtures of $^{4}\mathrm{He}$ in $^{3}\mathrm{He}$ has been measured as a function of pressure ($31 \mathrm{atm}\ensuremath{\lesssim}P\ensuremath{\lesssim}42 \mathrm{atm}$) for $^{3}\mathrm{He}$ mole
