Loquat canker, caused by Pseudomonas syringae pv. eriobotryae, is a serious disease of loquat [Eriobotrya japonica (Thunb.) Lindl.] in some countries such as Japan. Therefore, improved canker resistance is an important objective for loquat breeding.
