A major focus in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) public engagement sector concerns engaging with young people, typically through schools. The aims of these interventions are often to positively affect students’ aspiratio

Face Me: a declaration reveals the complexities of a mixed race identity through religion, sex, American history, and colorism. The poems in Face Me reject any white supremacy that dictates Biblical interpretations, historical truths, and beauty stan

We present new HI observations from the Australia Telescope Compact Array and deep optical imaging from OmegaCam on the VLT Survey Telescope of NGC 1427A, an arrow-shaped dwarf irregular galaxy located in the Fornax cluster. The data reveal a star-le

Understanding the distribution of gas in and around galaxies is vital for our interpretation of galaxy formation and evolution. As part of the Arecibo Galaxy Environment Survey (AGES) we have observed the neutral hydrogen (HI) gas in and around the n

We are carrying out a sensitive blind survey for neutral hydrogen (HI) in the Virgo cluster and report here on the first 5\deg\ x 1\deg\ area covered, which includes two optically-dark gas features: the five-cloud ALFALFA Virgo 7 complex (Kent et al.

Isolated HI clouds with no optical counterparts are often taken as evidence for galaxy-galaxy interactions, though an alternative hypothesis is that these are primordial 'dark galaxies' which have not formed stars. Similarly, certain kinematic featur

The existence of long (> 100 kpc) HI streams and small (< 20 kpc) free-floating HI clouds is well-known. While the formation of the streams has been investigated extensively, and the isolated clouds are often purported to be interaction debris, littl

As part of the HI Arecibo Galaxy Environments Survey (AGES) we have observed 5$\times$4 degrees of sky centred on M33, reaching a limiting column density of $\sim 1.5 \times 10^{17}$ cm$^{-2}$ (line width of 10 km s$^{-1}$ and resolution 3.5\arcmin).

We have used the Arecibo L-band Feed Array to map three regions, each of 5 square degrees, around the isolated galaxies NGC 1156, UGC 2082, and NGC 5523. In the vicinity of these galaxies we have detected two dwarf companions: one near UGC 2082, prev

We have used public data from the Next Generation Virgo Survey (NGVS) to investigate the dwarf galaxy population of the Virgo cluster beyond what has previously been discovered. We initially mask and smooth the data, and then use the object detection
