The synthesis of 4,6-dinitrobenzo[ d ]isothiazole from a product obtained by the replacement of the ortho -NO 2 group in N -2,4,6-trinitrobenzylidene-4’- N,N -dimethylaminoaniline on treatment with PhCH 2 SH was developed.
