This paper reports recent progress in the field of γ-ray diagnosis of fast ions in the JET tokamak. The γ-rays, born in nuclear reactions between fast ions and main plasma impurities and/or plasma fuel ions, are analysed with a new modelling tool (

A selection of the 14-MeV neutron spectra obtained at the JET Joint Undertaking tokamak during the deuterium–tritium operating campaign in 1997 are presented and analyzed. While several neutron spectrometers were operational during this campaign, t

Four natural diamond detectors (NDDs) have been used for deuterium–tritium neutron spectrometry and flux monitoring during the 1997 tritium experiments (DTE1) carried out in the Joint European Torus (JET). Neutron energy spectra have been measured

An account is given of the neutron spectrometric measurements on tokamak plasmas that have been performed at the Joint European Torus (JET) Joint Undertaking. The original restrictions for physical access to the tokamak and the performance projection

When using an organic liquid scintillator such as NE213 for neutron spectrometry, the light output as a function of proton energy is needed in order to unfold the neutron spectrum from the scintillator's pulse height distribution. We have measured th

As part of the design effort for a 14 MeV neutron spectrometer for the Joint European Torus (JET), computer codes were developed to calculate the response of a proton recoil telescope comprising a proton radiator film mounted in front of a proton det

During 1997 JET operation with D-T plasmas, 35 g of tritium were introduced into the torus, mainly by gas puffing. It was found that during this period, the torus tritium inventory would accumulate at a rate of about 40% of the input. After tritium o

During 1997 JET was operated for an extensive period using a D–T mixture (DTE1). Changes in the design and operation of diagnostic systems made over the years in preparation for this phase are described. A number of diagnostic techniques have been

Reactor relevant ICRH scenarios have been assessed during DT experiments on the JET tokamak using H mode divertor discharges with ITER-like shapes and safety factors. Deuterium minority heating in tritium plasmas was demonstrated for the first time.

JET's 1997 Deuterium Tritium Experiment (DTE1) allows a detailed study of hydrogenic isotope recycling and retention in a pumped divertor configuration relevant to ITER. There appear to be two distinct forms of retained tritium. (1) A dynamic invento
