Nucleolar organizer position was studied by means of AgNOR technique in 11 species of the Lacerta-complex. NOR position is the same in species within a subgenus, but it is different in different subgenera. This observation supports Arnold's (1973) an

1. 1. We have studied the DNA reassociation kinetics in 6 new reptile species and, in addition, we have carried out a comparative analysis of the genome composition of 7 turtles and 7 scaly-reptiles. 2. 2. In scaly-reptiles, as the phyletic distance

The seasonal variations of chiasma frequency and distribution have been studied in the lizard: Podareis sicula. In this species, as in Phyllodactylus (King & Hayman, Chromosoma 69: 131–154, 1978), chiasma frequencies vary following a definite annua

The karyology of various species from the family Lacertidae (Reptilia, Sauria) has been studied with conventional and C-banding techniques. The study shows that this family is not so conservative from a karyological viewpoint as considered till now.

A new case of female heterogamety has been described in Takydromus sexlineatus. In this species the W-chromosome has the same morphology as the Z-chromosome, but differs from it in being heterochromatic and C-banding positive. This situation is simil
