ABSTRACTDislocations form patterns that strongly influence mechanical properties. Prevailing theories are dichotomous: patterns either form by energy minimization or stochasticity during plastic flow. Using discrete dislocation dynamics simulations,

In this work, the center cracked Brazilian disk (BD) geometry is proposed as a possible small-scale low crack tip constraint fracture specimen for ductile FCC single crystals. These low crack tip constraint conditions are frequently encountered where

In this work, the crack tip fields in the neighborhood of a stationary mode I crack in a hardening Cu single crystal, under tensile load was investigated. A modified boundary layer (MBL) simulation was performed with the implementation of Bassani and

A novel Monte Carlo (MC) based solver for discrete dislocation dynamics (DDD) has been developed, by which dislocation lines are inserted to the system in succession subject to a user-defined acceptance criterion. Utilizing this solver, dislocation s

The plastic behavior in polycrystalline materials depends on the deformation of individual grains or single crystals. In this work, cyclic stress–strain behavior was studied in single crystal FCC material to understand the effect of strain localiza

In this work, the crack tip strain localization in a face centered cubic single crystal subject to both monotonic and cyclic loading was investigated. The effect of constraint was implemented using T-stress and strain accumulation was studied for bot
