Undoped and Er-doped NaY(WO4)2 disordered single crystals have been grown by the Czochralski technique. The specific heat and thermal conductivity (κ) of these crystals have been characterized from T = 4 K to 700 K and 360 K, respectively. It is sho

In this Special Issue on Cryogenically Cooled Lasers, we capture a snapshot of the state-of-the-art laser systems that capitalise on the benefits of operating the gain material at cryogenic temperatures. The principle of operating a solid-state laser

Solid-state laser based on Er-doped gain medium, is a promising approach to designing directly diode-pumped eye-safer pulsed sources in the spectral range ~1.45-1.65 m. This approach allows obtaining spectrally broad laser outputs with high effici

We developed a model describing the performance of the cladding-pumped, Yb:YAG-core, fiber-like waveguide laser with a large cladding-to-core area ratio. We analyzed how pump absorption and laser output efficiencies depend on the Yb-doping level as w

We modeled cascade lasing at 1.6 and 1.7 µm and studied how it affects Q-switching at the 2.8 µm in Er:YLF. We showed that enabling 1.7 µm continuous wave (CW) operation in the pre-Q-switch, energy accumulation stage not only reduces heating of th

We studied Q-switching at the 3 μm, assisted by CW lasing at the 1.7 μm and the gain-switched cascade lasing at the 1.6 μm. The former increases pulse energy, the latter allows increasing pulse frequency.

We demonstrated continuous wave operation of an in-band pumped Er:YAG planar waveguide laser with the output of 75 W at 1645 nm and a slope efficiency of 64% with respect to the absorbed pump power at 1532 nm.

We demonstrate a 154 W CW Raman fiber laser directly diode-pumped with 65% efficiency. We believe this is the highest power and highest efficiency Raman fiber laser reported in any configuration permitting brightness enhancement (i.e. either cladding

Several new laser transitions in resonantly-pumped Er3+:YVO4 have been demonstrated. Laser operation with a QD as low as 0.8 % has been obtained, which is believed to be the lowest QD for an eye-safe laser.

Laser operation of an eyesafe 1593.5-nm laser based on Er3+-doped yttrium orthovanadate single crystal resonantly-pumped by a spectrally-narrowed InGaAsP/InP diode bar stack is demonstrated for the first time. Cryogenically-cooled Er3+:YVO4 laser pum
