Quantitative hazard analysis of rockfalls is a fundamental tool for sustainable risk management, even more so in places where the preservation of natural heritage and people’s safety must find the right balance. The first step consists in determini

An automated, fixed-location, continuous time-lapse camera system was developed to analyze the existence of rockfall precursory movements and quantify volume changes after detachments. It was implemented to monitor the basaltic formation on which Cas

Real-scale fragmentation tests provide high quality data in order to study the fragmentation pattern of rock blocks. In the tests carried out, the initial rock mass, in terms of both volume and shape, was reconstructed by means of 3D photogrammetry.

In this paper, we present the upgraded version of RockGIS, a stochastic program for the numerical simulation of rockfalls and their fragmentation, based on a fractal model. The code has been improved to account for a range of fragmentation scenarios,

Rockfall events can cause important direct losses such as partial or total damage to transport infrastructures, traffic disruptions, and casualties, but also other indirect consequences that alter the normal running of society, its mobility, and econ

The fragmentation phenomenon has a significant effect on rockfall risk assessment. This information is difficult to obtain, but it is key to improving rockfall modelling. For this reason, the RockModels team has gathered data on the fragmentation of

There are personal and institutional decisions that can increase the seismic resilience of the buildings in a city. However, some of these decisions are possible if we have basic knowledge of buildings’ seismic risk. The present document describes
