Broadly neutralizing antibodies (bNAbs) neutralize HIV-1 and exert Fc-dependent activities against infected cells. Here, Dufloo et al. show that bNAbs also block HIV-1 release by trapping viral particles at the surface of infected cells.

SAMHD1 is a cellular dNTPase proposed to inhibit HIV-1 reverse transcription in non-cycling immune cells by limiting dNTP substrate supply; its anti-viral but not dNTPase function is downregulated by phosphorylation of T592. Here, Martinat et al. des

Broadly neutralizing antibodies (bNAbs) are promising as potential therapies targeting HIV-1 but their overall antiviral activity remains to be fully elucidated. Here the authors evaluate the ability of a panel of bNAbs to trigger antibody-dependent

Productive HIV infection of CD4(+) T cells leads to a caspase-independent cell death pathway associated with lysosomal membrane permeabilization (LMP) and cathepsin release, resulting in mitochondrial outer membrane permeabilization (MOMP). Herein, w

The IFN-inducible antiviral protein tetherin (or BST-2/CD317/HM1.24) impairs release of mature HIV-1 particles from infected cells. HIV-1 Vpu antagonizes the effect of tetherin. The fate of virions trapped at the cell surface remains poorly understoo

Severe cases of COVID‐19 are associated with extensive lung damage and the presence of infected multinucleated syncytial pneumocytes. The viral and cellular mechanisms regulating the formation of these syncytia are not well understood. Here, we sho
