Manganese dioxide compounds are widely used in electrochemical applications e.g. as electrode materials or photocatalysts. One of the most used polymorphs is gamma-MnO2 which is a disordered intergrowth of pyrolusite beta-MnO2 and ramsdellite R-MnO2.
