The AC Stark shift of electronic levels is ubiquitous in the interaction of intense light fields with atoms and molecules. As the light intensity changes on the rising and falling edges of a femtosecond laser pulse, it shifts the Rydberg states in an

Soliton fusion is a fascinating and delicate phenomenon that manifests itself in optical fibers in case of interaction between co-propagating solitons with small temporal and wavelengths separation. The mechanism of graduate acceleration of trailing

A Ti:sapphire based laser system provided 30-fs pulses centered at 800 nm with up to 3 mJ energy was used in the experiment. The input beam was focused by a concave mirror with radius of 3 m into a 1.5 m long glass cell. No iris-diaphragm or other be

Self-compression in white-light filaments offers a remarkably simple way for generation of multi-mJ pulses with sub-10-fs duration. We show that optimum compression is achieved at the verge of spatial and temporal break-up of the pulse.

We analyze pulse self-compression in femtosecond filaments, both experimentally and numerically. We experimentally demonstrate the compression of 45 fs pulses down to a duration of 7.4 fs at millijoule pulse energies. This sixfold compression in a se

We demonstrate a subpicosecond 1 kHz femtosecond x-ray source with a well-accessible quasi-point size (10 microm diameter) providing Cu K(alpha) emission with a maximum flux of 6.8 x 10(10) photons/s for continuous operation of 10 h. A new geometry t

The influence of spatial energy distribution in femtosecond laser beams on filamentary propagation in Ar and on evolution of the temporal shape and phases of the outgoing pulses were investigated. Beams with increased symmetry demonstrate more effici

We have developed a compact Ti:sapphire laser system operating at variable repetition rates up to 40 kHz. Pulses of 13.2 fs from a cavity-dumped oscillator were amplified further by a seven-pass confocal amplifier, and after compression 23.8-fs pulse
