NPHS2 là gen mã hóa cho protein podocin. Nhiều nghiên cứu trên thế giới chỉ ra đột biến gen này là nguyên nhân chính gây nên hội chứng thận hư (HCTH) khởi phát sớm ở trẻ nhỏ và HCTH kháng corticosteroid.
