We evaluate numerically the performance of DML transceivers for 50Gbit/s HS-PONs. We show that MLSE equalizer enables 20km optical fiber reach at a pre-FEC BER limit of 10-2 in both downstream and upstream.

We evaluated here the positive impact of MMSE equalizers on 50Gbit/s HS-PONs. Thanks to numerical simulations, we show that MMSE-LE and DFE allows to reach appreciable optical budget of 29dB for pre-FEC BER of 10–2.

We experimentally achieved 33dB optical budget with real time monitoring and wavelength tuning within a DWDM system in a fronthaul architecture. Compatibility with commercial RAT and remote control of the Tunable-SFPs are demonstrated.
