The photochemistry of ortho-nitrobenzaldehyde dissolved in tetrahydrofuran was studied by means of femtosecond UV/Vis and IR spectroscopy. Comparison was made of the spectral and temporal signatures for ~400 nm and ~260 nm excitation. The 400 nm exci

Two hemithioindigo-hemistilbene (HTI) derivatives, designed to operate as structural switches in peptides, as well as two HTI peptides are characterized by ultrafast spectroscopy in the visible and the infrared. The two HTI switches follow the reacti

The photo-induced rearrangement of 2-benzoyl-3-phenylquinoxaline-1,4-dioxide yielding 1,3-dibenzoylbenzimidazolone (DBBI) is studied by time-resolved fluorescence, UV/vis absorption, and IR spectroscopy. This complex rearrangement occurs on time scal

Elements of Quantum Information
Quantum key distribution (QKD) [1] is the first method of quantum information science that will find its way into our everyday life. It employs fundamental laws of quantum physics to ensure provably secure symmetric key generation between two parties

Femtosecond IR-pump-IR-probe experiments with independently tunable pulses are used to monitor the ultrafast response of selected IR absorption bands to vibrational excitation of other modes of Fmoc-nitrophenylalanine. The absorptions of both NO(2)-b

Hemithioindigo (HTI) is used as a structural trigger for attached peptides. Ultrafast, directly driven and slower, allosteric structural changes are induced by the HTI switch. Pronounced electronic interactions occur between the HTI and amino acids.

UV-induced formation of cylcobutane pyrimidine dimers (CPD) in all thymine DNA models have been studied by femtosecond IR spectroscopy. CPDs are shown to form within approximately 1 ps during the decay of the initially excited (1)pi pi * state. The q

Difference frequency mixing of pulses with adjustable chirp is applied to produce narrowband and widely tunable pulses in the mid-IR. They are used for selective excitation of vibrational modes in IR-pump-IR-probe experiments in a modified amino acid

The molecule HTI, which combines hemithioindigo and hemistilbene molecular parts, allows reversible switching between two isomeric states. Photochromic behaviour of the HTI molecule is observed by irradiation with UV/Vis light. The photochemical reac
