Anomalous fragmentation in the electron-impact ionization of molecules has been observed under conditions in which the molecules would be in van der Waals clusters with argon. This is interpreted as evidence for the Penning transfer of excitation ene

Using sub-Doppler molecular-beam CO 2 laser Stark spectroscopy, well-resolved Rabi oscillations have been observed in the 1 11 ← 1 10 , M = 1 ← 1 and 1 11 ← 2 12 , M = 1 ← 2 transitions of the υ 9 fundamental band of CH 2 F 2 . A least-squar

Vibrational relaxation rates for SiF4 in binary mixtures with CO 2 , CH 4 , O 2 , N 2 , He and Ar are determined using CO 2 laser-induced visible fluorescence. A model for the process is discussed.

A halo of fluorescence surrounding sparks produced in gases such as SiF 4 , CF 4 , BF 3 , CCl 2 F 2 , and hydrocarbons by the output of a TEA CO 2 laser, has been investigated. It is concluded that the fluorescence results from molecular dissociation

Observation of the visible fluorescence of the SiF radical in SiF4 gas irradiated by the pulsed output of a CO2 laser leads to the conclusion that the molecules are dissociated into electronically excited fragments by the action of the intense laser

The three-photon ionization cross-section for K at 6943 A has been determined to be (8.0 ± 1.8) × 10-91 m6s2 photon-3 for circularly polarized and (3.4 ± 0.8) × 10-91 m6s2 photon-3 for linearly polarized radiation. The ratio of these quantities (

Spatial structure in the luminescence resulting from electronically excited dissociation products is observed in SiF4 gas irradiated with the focused output of a pulsed high power CO2 laser. (Author)
