We show that Okamoto's classical solutions to PVI constructed from a seed solution of Gauss' hypergeometric equation can be derived very simply from the Ward ans?tze for ASDYM connections.

The JMMS equations are studied using the geometry of the spectral curve of a pair of dual systems. It is shown that the equations can be represented as time-independent Hamiltonian flows on a Jacobian bundle. © 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved

This article is concerned with obtaining the standard tau function descriptions of integrable equations (in particular, here the KdV and Ernst equations are considered) from the geometry of their twistor correspondences. In particular, we will see th

Special relativity is one of the high points of the undergraduate mathematical physics syllabus. Nick Woodhouse writes for those approaching the subject with a background in mathematics: he aims to build on their familiarity with the foundational mat

By an extension of Harnad's and Dubrovin's 'duality' constructions, the general isomonodromy problem studied by Jimbo, Miwa, and Ueno is equivalent to one in which the linear system of differential equations has a regular singularity at the origin an

Based on a course given at Oxford over many years, this book is a short and concise exposition of the central ideas of general relativity. The focus is on the chain of reasoning that leads to the relativistic theory from the analysis of distance and

Introduction One of the nonlinear systems that can be ‘solved’ by twistor methods is a reduced form of Einstein's vacuum equations for gravitational fields with two commuting Killing vectors. It is an intriguing example because it remains one of
