Ten presentations made by members of the IEEE Task Force on Transformer Tank Rupture and Mitigation over a course of four Transformer Committee meetings have been summarized. The task force was established in 2005 with an aim to review the current st

This paper presents a formalized and systematic approach for identifying the zone of vulnerability of a power plant to potentially damaging torsional stress. That is the region of the electrical network surrounding a plant where electrical disturbanc

This paper presents an approach to assess the cumulative risk associated with overload security for the purposes of mid-term power system planning. The work is motivated by a need to refine bulk power system reliability assessment to meet the needs o

Summary form only given as follows. The accuracy of generator dynamic parameters is one of the crucial factors in correctly simulating the power system transient phenomena. This paper proposes a general procedure for estimating the generator dynamic

Summary form only given, as follows. This paper describes new structures for stability-enhancing excitation controllers designed using a nonlinear multi-machine system model and Lyapunov's direct method. Two control structures are presented: a hierar

This paper presents an approach to calculate the risk of transient instability of an operating point for a power system. Risk is defined as the product of the probability of transient instability and the cost consequences of this instability in the e

This paper describes computational techniques for computing risk associated with voltage insecurity, where risk is assessed as the product of probability and consequence of under-voltage and voltage collapse. In contrast to deterministic assessment o

We describe weaknesses in using deterministic methods for performing security assessment for bulk transmission systems. We also present motivation for using probabilistic risk and provide fundamental relations for making the associated calculations.
