Inelastic light scattering studies on single crystals of (Na1-xLix)(2)IrO3 (x = 0, 0.05 and 0.15) show a polarization-independent broad band at similar to 2750 cm(-1) with a large band-width similar to 1800 cm(-1). For Na2IrO3 the broad band is seen

We report high-pressure Raman-scattering studies on single-crystal ReO3 up to 26.9 GPa at room temperature, complemented by first-principles density functional calculations to assign the modes and to develop understanding of the subtle features of th

We revisit the assignment of Raman phonons of rare-earth titanates by performing Raman measurements on single crystals of O18 isotope-rich spin ice Dy2Ti2O718 and nonmagnetic Lu2Ti2O718 pyrochlores and compare the results with their O16 counterparts.

Our in situ x-ray diffraction and Raman measurements of Yb2Ti2O7 pyrochlore show that it undergoes a reversible structural phase transition from cubic pyrochlore to a monoclinic phase at similar to 28.6 GPa. Analysis of the x-ray data shows the trans

Inelastic light scattering studies on a single crystal of electron-doped Ca(Fe0.95Co0.05)(2)As-2 superconductor, covering the tetragonal-to-orthorhombic structural transition as well as the magnetic transition at T-SM similar to 140 K and the superco

We report interesting anomalies in the temperature dependent Raman spectra of FeSe$_{0.82}$ measured from 3K to 300K in the spectral range from 60 to 1800 cm$^{-1}$ and determine their origin using complementary first-principles density functional ca

Permalloy (NiFeMo) nanoparticles were fabricated by laser ablation of bulk material in water with a UV pulsed laser. Transmission electron microscope images showed that approximately spherical particles about 50 nm in diameter were formed in the abla

We have carried out temperature- and pressure-dependent Raman and x-ray measurements on single crystals of Tb2Ti2O7. We attribute the observed anomalous temperature dependence of phonons to phonon-phonon anharmonic interactions. The quasiharmonic and

Synchrotron-based high-pressure x-ray diffraction measurements indicate that compressibility, a fundamental materials property, can have a size-specific minimum value. The bulk modulus of nanocrystalline titania has a maximum at particle size of 15 n

An X-ray diffraction study has been carried out on boron nitride multi-walled nanotubes up to 19.1 GPa. The fit to the unit cell volumes yields a zero pressure bulk modulus K-0 = 34.9 +/- 1 GPa and its pressure derivative K-0' = 5.9 +/- 0.3. The comp
