Summary This paper reviews part of our studies on gene regulation during the Arabidopsis seed maturation phase. Essentially, three complementary strategies have been used. The first one consisted in identifying genes expressed during this period by r

Almost all the nuclear genes of four Gramineae (maize, wheat, barley, rice) and pea are located in DNA fractions covering only a 1–2% GC range and representing between 10 and 25% of the different genomes. These DNA fractions comprise large gene-ric

We have isolated and sequenced a 9.5 kb genomic region from A. thaliana, located on chromosome 2, which contains two tandemly arranged closely related genes (AtM10 and AtM17) coding for a new family of LEA proteins. The deduced proteins have a molecu

The maize abscisic acid (ABA)-responsive gene rab28 has been shown to be ABA-inducible in embryos and vegetative tissues, expression being mostly restricted to vascular elements during late embryogenesis. In the course of an expressed sequence tags (

Wheat germin is a protein expressed during germination which possesses an oxalate oxidase activity. Germin-type oxalate oxidases have been extensively studied in monocotyledons (wheat and barley) where they are thought to have important functions for

The major simple sequence repeats present in the Arabidopsis genome were identified by Southern hybridizations with 49 oligonucleotide probes matching all the possible combinations of motifs up to 4 nucleotides long. The method used allowed us to per

Three cDNA clones, encoding napin storage proteins from radish, were isolated and sequenced. They fall into two classes differing in the size of the primary translation product. Sequences of the two classes are very well conserved and they display an

We analyzed the Arabidopsis thaliana genome sequence to detect Late Embryogenesis Abundant (LEA) protein genes, using as reference sequences proteins related to LEAs previously described in cotton or which present similar characteristics. We selected
