Maize (Zea mays L.) inbred lines of contrasting chilling sensitivity (three tolerant, three sensitive lines) were acclimated to 280 mumol photons m(-2) s(-1) white light at a 17 degrees C sub-optimal temperature. They showed no symptoms of photoinhib

Summary Two cold-sensitive and three cold-tolerant varieties of pea were grown at 17°/14 °C then cold-hardened at 5°C. Chlorophyll thermoluminescence emission was recorded from 0°C to 70°C on freshly excised leaflets after one, two or three flas

A simple method of characterising epithelial and endothelial corneal cells using laser light is presented. A continuous wave helium-neon laser emitting at a wavelength of 632.8 nm and a continuous wave argon laser emitting at 488 and 514.5 nm were us

Leaf discs of dark-adapted tobacco plants were excited by 2 flashes and kept in darkness at 20 °C for various time periods, then thermoluminescence emission was recorded without freezing the sample. The B band at 30 °C decreased with a half-time t1

Pulsed laser photoacoustic detection of NO2 and SO2 is reported. The laser source is a pulsed molecular nitrogen laser emitting at 337.1 nm. The average energy per pulse is about 350 (mu) J and the pulse duration 10 nsec. For detection we used a piez

A new method for corneal structure investigation is reported. The light reflected form rabbit cornea is recorded by a video-camera so that the images of epithelium and endothelium are obtained. Because of the great magnification factor due to the cor
