(1 E ,3 E ,5 E )-1-Chloro-3-( p -tolylsulfonyl)-1,3,5-alkatrienes ( 1 ) underwent facile ring-closure followed by spontaneous removal of hydrogen chloride to form a benzene ring. This reaction sequence occurred at relatively low temperature.
