Many Mott systems feature a first-order metal-insulator transition at finite temperatures, with an associated phase coexistence region displaying inhomogeneities and local phase separation. Here one typically finds "bubbles" or domains of the respect

We studied several aspects of the Mott metal-insulator transition in the disordered case. The model on which we based our analysis is the disordered Hubbard model, which is the simplest model capable of capturing the Mott metal-insulator transition.

Recent experiments show oscillations of dominant period h/2e in conductance vs. magnetic flux of charge density wave (CDW) rings above 77 K, revealing macroscopically observable quantum behavior. The time-correlated soliton tunneling model discussed

We propose a magnetic dual of the Coulomb blockade effect for quantum nucleation of flux vortex pairs in high-Tc superconducting (HTS) films and grain boundaries in zero applied field. The magnetic blockade instability occurs at {\theta} = {\pi}, whe

Recently observed Aharonov-Bohm quantum interference of period h/2e in charge density wave rings strongly suggest that correlated density wave electron transport is a cooperative quantum phenomenon. The picture discussed here posits that quantum soli

A large body of experimental evidence suggests that the decay of the false vacuum, accompanied by quantum pair creation of soliton domain walls, can occur in a variety of condensed matter systems. Examples include nucleation of charge soliton pairs i

We report on a macroscopic version of the single-electron transistor (SET), which we call the soliton tunneling transistor (STT). The STT, consists of a gate capacitor coupled to a NbSe$_{3}$ crystal with a charge density wave (CDW). The current-volt

A model is discussed in which an electric field induces quantum nucleation of soliton-antisoliton pairs in a pinned charge or spin density wave. Coulomb blockade prevents pair creation until the electric field exceeds a sharp threshold value, which c
