Stress-induced birefringence leads to losses in solid-state laser resonators and amplifiers with polarized output beams. A model of stress-induced birefringence in thin disks is presented, as well as measurements of stress-induced birefringence in a

We present a linear multipass amplifier based on the thin-disk technology which allows power scaling of continuous-wave, pulsed, and ultrashort-pulsed lasers without change of beam characteristics. The flexibility of the seed laser, such as choice of

A Yb:YAG thin-disk multi-pass laser amplifier pumped at 941 nm delivers 2.3 mJ of pulse energy at 1.4 kW average output power, 950 fs pulse duration and M2 < 1.8 beam quality. Zero-phonon-line pumping at 969 nm improves M2 to below 1.4 at 1.8 mJ puls

We report on commercial picosecond thin-disk regenerative amplifiers providing pulse energies up to 200 mJ and 1 kW of average power. A monolithic mirror array was developed for further scaling in a multipass arrangement. First tests in continuous an
