Abstract Fission product Sr, Mo, and Ru isotopes in six 10-μm particles of spent fuel from a pressurized water reactor were analyzed by resonance ionization mass spectrometry (RIMS) and evaluated for utility in nuclear material characterization. Pre

Uranium interference is a major problem in conventional 238Pu analysis. In RIMS, a slight detuning of the resonance laser extinguishes the Pu signal so that the 238U interference can be accurately quantified and subtracted.

Solid samples of spent nuclear fuel were analyzed for actinide isotopic composition by resonance ionization mass spectrometry. Isotopes of U, Pu, and Am were simultaneously quantified using a new method that removes and/or resolves the isobaric inter

Atoms sputtered from solids by energetic ion irradiation often partition across electronically excited states. We developed a resonance ionization method to measure the population of the uranium 5K5 state (620 cm−1) relative to the 6L6 ground state

We used CHILI, the Chicago Instrument for Laser Ionization, a new resonance ionization mass spectrometer developed for isotopic analysis of small samples, to analyze strontium, zirconium, and barium isotopes in 22 presolar silicon carbide grains. Twe

The isotopic composition of titanium in meteoritic phases can be used to decipher processes such as stellar nucleosynthesis and galactic chemical evolution. In order to facilitate analyses of trace amounts of titanium in atom-limited samples, we esta

Aside from recording stellar nucleosynthesis, a few elements in presolar grains can also provide insights into the galactic chemical evolution (GCE) of nuclides. We have studied the carbon, silicon, iron, and nickel isotopic compositions of presolar
