When light hits organic semiconductors, bound charge pairs, called excitons, are usually produced. Here, the authors show that in the best performing organic solar material to date, free charges, rather than excitons, are directly created by light.

Photoinduced changes in transmission, reflection and scattering prevent conventional pump-probe spectroscopy to unambiguously assign the origin of spectral signatures. Ashoka et al. have developed an optical modelling technique to extract quantitativ

Luminescent solar concentrators (LSCs) concentrate light via luminescence within a planar-waveguide and have potential use for building-integrated photovoltaics. However, their commercialization and potential applications are currently hindered great

The lighting industry currently accounts for a significant proportion of all energy demand. Luminescent white lighting is often impure, inefficient, expensive, and detrimentally emits as a point source, meaning the light is emitted from a focused poi

Anharmonic ultrafast structural dynamics are expected in lead halide perovskites due to their soft nature. Here Rivett et al. show that these dynamics lead to picosecond-long polarization anisotropy of photo-carriers in several halide perovskites, or

In contrast to classical bulk heterojunction (BHJ) in organic solar cells (OSCs), the quasi-homojunction (QHJ) with extremely low donor content (≤10 wt.%) is unusual and generally yields much lower device efficiency. Here, representative polymer do

Artificial light harvesters require ordered arrangement of chromophores. We covalently attach three organic chromophore ligands to silicon dioxide nanoparticles. This allows us to study inter-ligand energy transfer when attached to SiO2 nanoparticles
