In order to improve safety, lifetime and energy efficiency of turbo machines, the behavior of the turbine blades has to be monitored during operation. This is a great challenge for metrology, since small, robust and non-contact position measurement t

We report on the fabrication of a one-dimensional micro-retroreflector array with a pitch of 100 μm. The array was fabricated by x-ray lithography and the lithographie, galvanik und abformung (LIGA) process in a 1 mm thick poly(methyl methacrylate)

The LIGA process was used to fabricate a one-dimensional array of retroreflectors in PMMA with a gold-coated usable area of 1 mm x 10 mm and a pitch of 100 µm. We discuss its use as tapped delay-line filter for fs-pulses.

We report about design, fabrication, and experimental characterization of a compact sensor head for gas analysis via atomic emission spectroscopy. The novelty of our approach is the integration of a micro-hollow cathode structure for plasma generatio

Microoptics offers interesting solutions for the processing and shaping of optical signals consisting of femtosecond pulses. Since one can operate either in the spectral or in the time domain, a variety of implementations exists. As an example for th

The use of the third spatial dimension in optical systems is of interest for many applications such as sensing and data communications. Furthermore, the need for small size and low cost requires suitable concepts for integration and packaging. Here,

Talbot’s bands can be observed in one of the diffraction orders of a grating spectrometer with a partially phase-shifted input beam. This experiment has long been considered as a curiosity. Here, we look at it from a new perspective: we discuss the

We report a novel micro-optical systems approach for gas chromatographic detection based on plasma excitation of the eluate and subsequent emission spectroscopic evaluation. Specifically, we propose a detector architecture that integrates a microholl

An integrated pulse shaper for femtosecond pulses was built and characterized. It uses far-field grating diffraction to generate the spectrum of an input pulse in the Fourier plane. The implementation of the system we present uses the concept of plan

We present a fiber-coupled miniaturized sensor for simultaneous measurement of velocity, distance, vibration and shape of fast moving rough objects. Optimization of the 25mmx25mmx60mm sized sensor is achieved using diffractive optical elements.
