Biological air filters have been proposed as a cost-effective technology for reducing odor emissions from intensive swine production facilities. In this work we present results from the application of membrane inlet mass spectrometry (MIMS) for conti

Odor nuisance can be a significant problem for neighbors to large pig housing facilities and can have financial consequences for both the neighbors and the pig producers. Draining the slurry pit more often than normal may provide a simple and cost ef

Emissions of odor and ammonia from small-scale pig finishing units were reduced by 40 % as a result of mechanical and chemical treatment of the slurry. Once a week, the pits were drained, and the slurry was separated mechanically using polymers, then

The aim of this study was to investigate the reduction of odour and ammonia from outlet air using vertical biofilters in two units with growing-finishing pigs in both the winter and summer. The biofilters were cylindrical and hollow, and woodchips we

Single odorants in the outlet air from swine units have been measured by sampling air on adsorption tubes followed by analysis by GC-MS (Gas Chromatography - Mass Spectrometry). Additionally, online measurements by MIMS (Membrane Inlet Mass Spectrome

In Denmark, two brand new systems for reducing odour from swine production units are being developed. One of these systems is based on air purification using membrane technology, and the other system is based on treatment of slurry using ozone. This

When treating swine slurry with ozone, the slurry is divided into fractions. It is divided into a thin fraction, a thick fraction, and a foam fraction. This is used in connection with a brand new system for reducing odour from swine production units.

Ammonia released in pig production industries can lead to eutrophication of surface waters, soil acidification, fertilization of vegetation and changes in ecosystems, etc. Air scrubbers with spray of aerosolized sulphur solution were used to remove t
