For the purpose of producing polymer ribbon/polymer-matrix composites, we manufacture rectangular cross section ribbons directly by spinning from a rectangular die. A range of optical techniques, including the interferometric measurement of filament

Directionally reflective fiber arrays were woven with polymer fibers. Fiber cross sections produced using a tricomponent fiber extruder comprised standard circular as well as right angle retro-reflection features that run the entire length of the fib

Arrays of "nanorectennas", consisting of nanodiode-coupled nanoantennas, are of interest for converting visible/near-infrared (vis/nir) light into useful direct current. For efficient energy conversion, the nanoantenna array must have a high absorban

Extruded polymer fibers with submillimeter diameters are considered for tailored optical and near-IR properties. Retroreflection of light is demonstrated. Simulated and measured reflection spectra are compared and found to agree. Additional simulatio

Nickel oxide (NiO) layers were formed on silicon (Si) substrates by plasma oxidation of nickel (Ni) film lines. This ultrathin NiO layer acted as a barrier layer to conduction, and was an integral part of a metal-insulator-metal (MIM) diode, complete
