This article describes a process of fabricating highly porous paper from cellulosic fibers and carbon black (CB) with tunable conductivity. By embossing such paper, its porosity decreases while its conductivity increases. Tuning the porosity of compo

Electrospray deposition (ESD) is a versatile micro/nano coating technology that utilizes the competition between surface charge of a droplet and its surface tension to create monodisperse generations of micro/nano droplets. ESD can deposit uniform th

Kevlar KM2 600 denier yarn is often twisted to improve yarn load at failure. It is noted in ASTM-D-7269 that twisting KM2 past five twists per inch can cause a lower load at failure. Understanding the physics that govern the load decrease at higher t

Fiber-matrix debonding is a common type of failure in composite materials. A computational model that illustrates this damage-induced separation between glass fiber and epoxy matrix in a fiberglass composite model is created from the ground-up. Mater

The interfacial relationship between a glass fiber bundle and epoxy resin is investigated both experimentally and computationally. A cylindrical notched specimen with a single bundle of fibers along the axis is created to observe debonding behavior.
