Voisin et al. show that reducing phosphorylation at serine 196 of LXRα (LXRα pS196) in hematopoietic cells attenuates atherosclerosis and obesity of mice fed a high-fat diet. They find that the transcriptional activity of LXRα is reprogrammed in m

Acyl-CoA synthetase 1 (ACSL1) is an enzyme that converts fatty acids to acyl-CoA-derivatives for lipid catabolism and lipid synthesis in general and can provide substrates for the production of mediators of inflammation in monocytes and macrophages.

Dendrogenin A, cholesterol metabolite, has tumor suppressive properties but the mechanisms are unknown. Here the authors show that Dendrogenin A can induce autophagy-mediated cell death in both melanoma and acute myeloid leukaemia.

Spermatogenesis is a complex process that establishes male fertility and involves proper communication between the germline (spermatozoa) and the somatic tissue (Sertoli cells). Many factors that are important for spermatozoa production are also requ

Atherosclerosis and obesity share pathological features including inflammation mediated by innate and adaptive immune cells. LXRα plays a central role in the transcription of inflammatory and metabolic genes. LXRα is modulated by phosphorylation at

Posttranslational modifications, such as phosphorylation, are a powerful means by which the activity and function of nuclear receptors such as LXRα can be altered. However, despite the established importance of nuclear receptors in maintaining metab
