Different sensors that provide a measure for the resolution of the LES content in hybrid RANS/LES computations are proposed and investigated. In an a-priori test on isotropic turbulence a suitable sensor is identified. Based on that sensor an automat

A reconstruction method based on the diffusion approximation for the light propagation in turbid media and on a minimization strategy is presented. A higher accuracy for the forward simulation and a considerable reduction of the computational effort

Photon Propagation in Tissues.
Light propagation in highly scattering media can be numerically simulated by solving the diffusion equation by the finite element method (FEM). Employing an iterative algorithm, the FEM solution of the forward problem is applied to the inverse imagin

The reconstruction method presented here is based on diffusion approximation for light propagation in turbid media and on a minimization strategy for the output-least-squares problem. A perturbation approach is introduced for the optical properties.

Light propagation in highly scattering media as a result of the injection of short laser pulses is described by the diffusion model, with absorption and scattering being considered as parameter functions. Different boundary conditions are discussed.
