Failure of cell cycle regulation in neurons might be critically involved in the process of neurodegeneration in Alzheimer’s disease (AD). We present here evidence to support the hypothesis that cell cycle alterations occur in cells other than neuro

BackgroundMutations in the progranulin (PGRN) gene, leading to haploinsufficiency, cause familial frontotemporal lobar degeneration (FTLD-TDP), although the pathogenic mechanism of PGRN deficit is largely unknown. Allelic loss of PGRN was previously

Podocalyxin (Podxl) is a type I membrane sialoprotein of the CD34 family, originally described in the epithelial glomerular cells of the kidney (podocytes) in which it plays an important function. Podxl can also be found in megakaryocytes and platele

Podocalyxin (PODXL) is a type I membrane mucoprotein abundantly presented in the epithelial cells (podocytes) of kidney glomeruli where it plays an important role in maintaining the plasma filtration. PODXL is also expressed in other types of cells b

We report the molecular genetic analysis of a patient with thrombasthenic phenotype. The lack of surface platelet GPIIb-IIIa complexes and the presence of GPIIIa suggested it was a case of type I Glanzmann's thrombasthenia due to a mutation in GPIIb.

Livers isolated from fasted rats were perfused in a blood-free recirculating system using alanine (10 mm) as the carbon source. Glucagon at a concentration of 2.1 × 10−9m enhanced gluconeogenesis, ureogenesis, and ketogenesis. The proportion of al

The effect of nucleotide energy levels in vivo on the different steps of protein synthesis has been studied. Hepatic anoxia was induced by interrupting the blood portal-vein flow. At 5 min of anoxia ATP fell to 59% of the control values and the amino
