We report on the first demonstration of high-speed optical modulation exploiting Pockels effect in strained silicon waveguides. Bandwidths larger than 20 GHz and low insertion loss have been achieved at a wavelength of 1550 nm.

A hybrid BiCMOS-Silicon Photonics receiver with a waveguide-coupled Ge/Si avalanche photodiode is demonstrated with OMA sensitivities of −14.4dBm for error-free operation at 50 Gbps and -18.6 dBm under the KP4-FEC limit at 56 Gbps NRZ-OOK.

A novel silicon beam splitter based on modal and symmetry engineering in slot waveguides is reported. We experimentally demonstrate insertion loss and imbalance below 1 dB over a broad bandwidth of 390 nm, for both TE and TM polarizations.
