Interferon regulatory factor (IRF) 8 and IRF4 are structurally-related, hematopoietic cell-specific transcription factors that cooperatively regulate the differentiation of dendritic cells and B cells. Whilst in myeloid cells IRF8 is known to modulat

Alymphoplasia (aly/aly) mice are from a naturally occurring strain with a mutation in nuclear factor-kappa B inducing kinase (NIK). The NIK mutation causes disruption of the architecture of the thymus and spleen and aly/aly mice show decreased number

Tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) induces apoptosis of various tumor cells but not normal cells. However, various cytokines and virus infection differentially regulate TRAIL and TRAIL receptor expression. It has been dem

The ability of Plasmodium coatneyi-infected red blood cells (IRBCs) to bind to C32 amelanotic melanoma cells was examined under static and physiologic flow conditions in vitro. Six blood samples obtained from P. coatneyi-infected Japanese macaques (M

Myeloid progenitors lose their potential to generate neutrophils when they adopt the mononuclear phagocyte lineage. The mechanism underlying this lineage restriction remains unknown. We here report that the protein expression of IRF8, an essential tr

In this study, we examined expression of the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I molecules and of the mRNAs for MHC class I-mediated antigen presentation machinery molecules in highly purified C57BL/6 mouse testicular germ cells. Although

The authors analysed the antigen-presenting ability of eosinophils purified from peritoneal exudate cells of interleukin-5 (IL-5) transgenic mice. The granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF)-treated eosinophils induced proliferative

Summary Dendritic cells (DCs) are the only antigen-presenting cell population having a cross-presentation capacity. For cross-presentation, however, the intracellular antigen-processing pathway and its regulatory mechanism have not been defined. Here
