Fe2+-doped ZnSe particles were dispersed in a chalcogenide glass matrix amenable to fiber drawing. Adding an alumina shell prevented ZnSe dissolution and preserved normal Fe2+ optical absorption and emission properties.

Broadband ultrashort pulse and amplified spontaneous emission thulium fiber systems are utilized for atmospheric propagation testing. These systems enable precise characterization of H2O and CO2 absorption in the 2 μm wavelength regime.
