VCSEL links typically require multiple supply voltages for high-speed and low-power operation. We report a 40-Gb/s 1.5-μm VCSEL link achieving 8.7 pJ/bit of energy efficiency with a 0.13-μm SiGe VCSEL driver and TIA operated at 2.5 V.

We demonstrate an IQ modulator by employing two monolithic injection-locked VCSELs which are driven to produce pure amplitude modulation. QPSK signals are produced at 10 GBaud with a peak-to-peak modulation voltage of 600 mV.
