Streamflow in small forested watersheds on the Boreal Plain of western Canada can be a challenge to monitor due to high variation in flow, shifting channel morphology, aufeis obstructions, shallow channel depth, and debris in the channel. Intensive m

Water and phosphorus (P) exports during the peakflow season increased after a fire in early summer 1998 burned 89% of an upland watershed on the Boreal Plain of western Canada. The change in water export between pre- (1983) and post-fire (1998 to 200

Between 1986 and 1993, a variety of systems, ranging from simple to complex, were designed for lime (slaked lime (Ca(OH)2) or calcite (CaCO3)) and alum (Al2(SO4)3) application to water bodies in Alberta, Canada. Application systems were used both exp

1. Aquatic macrophytes are abundant in ponds and canals that are constructed in semi-arid regions for water storage and conveyance, as well as in lakes that are culturally enriched. 2. Addition of Ca(OH) 2 to two hardwater ponds at 250 or 275 mg L -1

SUMMARY 1. Whole-lake experiments were conducted in two hardwater lakes (Halfmoon and Figure Eight) in Alberta, Canada, to investigate the effectiveness of repeated lime (slaked lime: Ca(OH)2 and/or calcite: CaCO3) treatments (5‐78 mg L ‐1 ) for

1. The main focus of this study was to investigate the effects of single and multiple moderate doses of lime (slaked lime, Ca(OH)2, and/or calcite, CaCO3) on eutrophic hardwater lakes. This information would contribute to strategies to manage phytopl

Halfmoon Lake is a small, moderately deep, hypereutrophic, hardwater lake with a relatively small (2.4 km2), partially cleared drainage basin situated in the Boreal Mixedwood Ecoregion of central Alberta. The water is often thermally stratified, and
