The monogeneric family Mesaiokeratidae (Copepoda: Calanoida) is exclusively bentho-pelagic and comprises nine small hyperbenthic species. Previous knowledge of these species has been limited to the description of their morphology and habitat. We prov

We complied and analysed a long-term calanoid community data set (1952–2009) with respect to environmental variations in nearly closed seawater lake Veliko Jezero (South Adriatic Sea). Changes in hydrographic properties were influenced by deepening

The spatio-temporal patterns of a zooplankton community structure in a strongly stratified enclosed marine environment were studied over a one-year period. Copepods were by far the most abundant group, accounting for 69–91% of the total zooplankton

This paper presents the results from a study in which two commonly used plankton mesh sizes (125 µm and 200 µm) were compared. We examined the influence of the mesh size effects on zooplankton community structure by comparing abundance, biomass and
Aurelia spp. are cosmopolitan scyphozoan species and probably the most studied jellyfish in the world. They inhabit nearshore waters, especially closed basins, such as coastal embayments, fjords and estuaries, occupying a great variety of habitats wo

Temporal and spatial distribution of pelagic tunicates appendicularians was studied at six stations in Boka Kotorska Bay from March 2009 to June 2010. There were found nine species at all. The most numerous pelagic tunicates were found in Tivat Bay.

Aurelia aurita s.l. is the most widespread scyphozoan jellyfish that recurrently appear “en mass” and forms large aggregations mainly in coastal waters, embayments and estuaries. Beside anthropogenic factors controlling jellyfish populations clim
The present work reports the first data of euphausiids larvae species composition, abundance and diel vertical migration (DVM) in the Adriatic Sea. The composition, bathymetric distribution, and diel vertical migration of larval euphausiids in the ol

The composition, bathymetric distribution, and diel vertical migration of larval euphausiids in the oligotrophic southern Adriatic Sea were studied during the summer of 2003. Larvae of 11 species were identified. Of these, Thysanoessa gregaria is rep
