The synthesis of 2,7-diphenyl-azo-1,8-naphthyridine (dpan) and its reaction with copper(I) are described. The X-ray study of the new entity [Cu 2 (dpan) 3 ](BF 4 ) 2 ( 1 ) reveals its molecular structure with two coppers separated by a distance of 3.
