A simple and highly efficient method was developed to produce a library of Escherichia coli clones that express a particular chromosomal gene at a wide range of expression levels. The basic strategy was to replace all or part of the upstream region o

The response regulator Spo0A is the master control element in the initiation of sporulation in Bacillus subtilis. Like many other multi-domain response regulators, the latent activity of the effector, C-terminal domain is stimulated by phosphorylatio

Spo0A is a two-domain response regulator required for the initiation of sporulation in Bacillus subtilis. Spo0A is activated by phosphorylation of its regulatory domain by a multicomponent phosphorelay. To define the role of the regulatory domain in

The unusual architecture of the enzyme (MsAcT) isolated from Mycobacterium smegmatis forms the mechanistic basis for favoring alcoholysis over hydrolysis in water. Unlike hydrolases that perform alcoholysis only under anhydrous conditions, MsAcT demo

Spo0A is a two-domain response regulator required for sporulation initiation in Bacillus subtilis. Studies on response regulators have focused on the activity of each domain, but very little is known about the mechanism by which the regulatory domain
Initiation of sporulation in Bacillus subtilis is controlled by several regulators which affect activation by phosphorylation of the key response regulator Spo0A or transcription of Spo0A-P-dependent genes. In vivo overexpression of one of these regu

The Spo0JA and Spo0JB proteins of Bacillus subtilis are similar to the ParA and ParB plasmid-partitioning proteins, respectively, and mutation of spo0JB prevents the expression of stage II genes of sporulation. This phenotype is a consequence of Spo0
