Chemically pumped CO is studied as a medium for tunable, VUV anti‐Stokes Raman laser emission. Raman scattering of excimer and tunable UV lasers has been observed from 135 nm to 170 nm.

The tuning and saturation behavior of the anti‐Stokes Raman laser is examined experimentally for the first time in a Raman medium of inverted, metastable T1* (6p 2P03/2). Two significant regions of saturation are identified corresponding to atomic
