Abstract Miniaturised optical spectrometers are attractive due to their small footprint, low weight, robustness and stability even in harsh environments such as space or industrial facilities. We report on a stationary-wave integrated Fourier-transfo

Modern machine learning models use an ever-increasing number of parameters to train (175 × 109 parameters for GPT-3) with large datasets to achieve better performance. Optical computing has been rediscovered as a potential solution for large-scale d

Integrated optics has weak ultraviolet and near-ultraviolet (NUV) light conversion due to its strong material dispersion and large propagation losses. To reach this spectral range, we use non-centrosymmetric waveguides that convert near-infrared (NIR

We present the modelling and fabrication of a 1x2 multimode interferometer in lithium niobate-on-insulator operating close to visible around 780 nm. We measure low excess loss of 0.16 ± 0.21 dB and extinction ratios up to 30 dB.

In display technologies or data processing, planar and subwavelength free-space components suited for flat photonic devices are needed. Metasurfaces, which shape the optical wavefront within hundreds of nanometers, can provide a solution for thin and

An integrated electro-optic modulator based on a waveguide Bragg grating in thin-film lithium niobate is introduced. The compact device with a footprint of 10 × 400 μm2 displays an optical extinction ratio of 53.8 dB at a wavelength of 1555.9 nm in

We present integrated uniform, phase-shifted and sampled Bragg gratings in lithium niobate-on-insulator. High extinction ratios of 35 dB at 1550 nm, quality factors of 3.4M04 and an electro-optic tuning efficiency of 14.6 pm/V are achieved.

High-quality crystals without inversion symmetry are the conventional platform to achieve optical frequency conversion via three-wave mixing. In bulk crystals, efficient wave mixing relies on phase-matching configurations, while at the micro- and nan
