This paper deals with the problem of allocating costs in set covering situations. In particular, we focus on set covering situations where the optimal covering is given in advance. Thus, we take into account only the facilities that have to be opened

This chapter tests whether a group of landowners living in the upstream part of a river basin could change land use to increase retention and thus decrease flood risk of the other group living in downstream parts of the river basin.

Socio-economic development combined with changing hydrological factors represents a challenge for extending flood protection. In particular, land owners should be encouraged to use their land in a way that improves its water retention capacity. Howev

In this paper we study situations where a group of agents require a service that can only be provided from a source, the so-called source connection problems. These problems contain the standard fixed tree, the classical minimum spanning tree and som

In coalitional games in which the players are partitioned into groups, we study the incentives of the members of a group to leave it and become singletons. In this context, we model a non-cooperative mechanism in which each player has to decide wheth

We study minimum cost spanning tree problems with groups, where agents are located in different villages, cities, etc. The groups are formed by agents living in the same village. In Bergantinos and Gomez-Rua (Economic Theory 43:227–262, 2010) we de

In this note, we prove that the core of a k-hop minimum cost spanning tree problem could be empty. We also introduce a cost sharing rule based on bankruptcy problems. We prove that this rule satisfies meaningful properties for these problems.

Gómez-Rúa (2011, SERIEÂ’s) considers a river divided into n segments. In each segment there is exactly one agent, who releases some kind of residue into the water. An environmental authority must share the total cost of cleaning the river networ

In the context of cost sharing in minimum cost spanning tree problems, we introduce a property called merge-proofness. This property says that no group of agents can be better off claiming to be a single node. We show that the sharing rule that assig

We define a new value for games with a level structure and introduce a new property in these kind of games, called balanced per capita contributions, related with other properties in the literature. Further, we provide an axiomatic characterization o
