Cytosine in human DNA can be modified by DNA methyltransferases (DNMTs) and the Ten-Eleven Translocation (TET) family of oxygenases. Activity of these enzymes results in four modifications, among which 5-methylcytosine (5mC) and 5-hydroxymethylcytosi
