We propose a novel diagnostic technique that uses 1-μm-band mode-detection optical time domain reflectometry (1 μm-OTDR) to identify the loss causes such as macrobends and fusion splices, of single-mode fibers. 1 μm-OTDR, which employs 1-μm-band

We review recent progress in integrated photonics devices and their applications for datacom. In addition to current technology used in 100-Gigabit Ethernet (100GbE) with a compact form-factor of the transceiver, the next generation of technology for

We developed a compact receiver optical subassembly (ROSA) for 100-Gigabit Ethernet (100 GbE) using multimode-output-arrayed waveguide grating (MM-AWG) and arrayed photodiodes (PDs). The four-channel silica-based MM-AWG has low insertion loss of less

We have successfully demonstrated an AWG with a wide and rectangular passband by introducing a new concept using 0th and 1st order modes. An interference circuit consisting of a tandem MZI and a mode converter at the entrance of the 1st slab waveguid

We experimentally evaluate the relationship between mode dependent loss (MDL) and Q penalty for few-mode fibre transmission. We employ a low-MDL recirculating loop and free-space-optics type MDL equaliser and transmit 3-mode signals with PDM-16QAM mo

Linear optics underpins fundamental tests of quantum mechanics and quantum technologies. We demonstrate a single reprogrammable optical circuit that is sufficient to implement all possible linear optical protocols up to the size of that circuit. Our

We propose a novel diagnostic technique for identifying loss factors using 1-µm-band mode-detection OTDR. The loss ratio between the LP 01 and LP 11 modes of backscattered light determines the macrobending or fusion splicing state.

We propose a bidirectional 400-Gb/s configuration that uses optical sub-assemblies for 100-Gb/s Ethernet and a cyclic arrayed waveguide grating. The feasibility of a 10-km fiber transmission of 28-Gbaud 8λ-PAM4 and a compact transceiver are shown.

A theoretical and experimental study of an optical interferometer circuit with a uniform wavelength spacing is presented. The operating principle of the filter and a phase-generating coupler (PGC) that can transform a conventional filter into a unifo
