Using a programmable demultiplexer to validate launch conditions, we develop a mode-dependent loss (MDL) measurement method for fiber orbital angular momentum modes. We uncover spread in MDL and confirm low crosstalk in our fiber design.

We present a methodology to find the highest throughput OAM mode set for a given fiber design. For a point-to-point link, we find bit loading for all possible mode subsets and attain a 15% improvement over mode selection based on the minimax crosstal
