In this paper, we describe the design, fabrication and performance of multiwavelength DFB laser arrays with integrated combiner and optical amplifier built for wavelength-division-multiplexed (WDM) optical networks. The goal is to reduce the per-wave

We describe how multimode interference couplers (MMI) may be used to broaden and flatten the passband of integrated wavelength-dispersive filters. We discuss the approach and demonstrate its effectiveness with a passband-broadened InP arrayed wavegui

In this letter, we report the static performance of multiwavelength DFB laser arrays with integrated star couplers and optical amplifiers built for the reconfigurable optical network testbed. By the use of wavelength redundancy and proximity effect,

An eight-channel/spl times/2 nm monolithic polarisation-independent WDM detector integrating a compact birefringence-free InP/InGaAsP arrayed waveguide demultiplexer and a p-i-n waveguide-detector array is reported for the 1.55 /spl mu/m fibre band.

A four-channel phased-array wavelength demultiplexer with a flattened wavelength response has been realised for the first time in InP/InGaAsP at 1.54 mu m by employing multimode output waveguides. The device has 2 nm channel spacing and a flat respon

A 4-channel phased-array wavelength division demultiplexer with 1.8 nm channel spacing at 1.54 /spl mu/m has been monolithically integrated with photodetectors in InP/InGaAsP. On chip losses are 3.5 to 4.5 dB. These are the lowest losses reported so

We report the performance of the 10-wavelength DFB laser array with small wavelength dependence of output power, extinction ratio, frequency response and chirp parameter. The active layer consists of six strain compensated quantum wells grown on top

We report high power performance of a 10-wavelength DFB laser array using on-chip optical amplification. Average power per wavelength into a single mode fiber is 6.5 dBm and 0.5 dBm under individual and simultaneous operation, respectively.

Summary form only given. We report a high-performance polarization-independent InP arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) filter employing a compact reflective geometry. Here, we show that square-core AWGs may be realized in a reflection geometry, and still

We present the recent trends in the development of design and simulation tools for integrated optical circuits. We will address the relevant design steps, required to finish a typical design cycle, such as technology simulations, optical simulations,
