Hypervalent iodine oxidation of some 2,4-dihydroxyacetophenones (2a–d) with C6H5I (OAc)2 -KOH/MeOH providing a novel route to 2-hydroxy-3-iodo-4-phenoxyacetophenones (3a–d) via the rearrangement of iodonium ylides is reported.
